Solving the Traffic Jam

an essay,

“If there is no traffic jam, its name is not Jakarta”. May be all of us frequently hear this sentence come out from our friends’ mouth. Many people get stressed because of Jakarta’s bad traffic jam. They chase time every day. Many people have to leave their house 2 to 3 hours before office and also have to experience stuck in the traffic for 2 to 3 hours after office. This makes their lives are not efficient. They spend too much time in the way. If Jakarta has not traffic jam, it must be Jakarta’s productivity is much larger as people can do more things because they save more time. So, Government should search the best way to solve this problem. There are two things that Government can do: improve roads and highways, and improving public transport. I think Government should concentrate and spend more money on improving roads and highways rather than improving public transport. The reasons why government should spend more money on improving roads and highways are: the rate of vehicle produce is much more than the addition of road, and some people do not trust public transportation.
We can see that many cars’ and motorcycles’ manufacturers report an increase of sales each year, but we seldom see addition of road’s area. If this continues to happen, traffic jam in Jakarta will be worse and worse all the time. The increase and improve of road’s area is definitely important for Jakarta. The improvement can be increase the wide of the road, build fly over or under pass at the stuck points and build highways over frequently stuck road. In many roads and streets in Jakarta, their wide decrease because of cloisters illegally sells their product in each side of the roads. This makes Jakarta’s traffic jam worse. Government should take coherent action about this.
Using public transport for some people in Jakarta is not a favorite choice, as they feel uncomfortable to use it. There are some reasons why they do not feel uncomfortable. In Jakarta public transportation, like ‘mikrolet’, ‘bajaj’, ‘metromini’, and bus the safety of passengers is not the drivers’ concern. They drive as they want. They suddenly stop at every place and ignoring traffic signs. Criminalities are also one of the reasons. There are many pickpockets or even robbers in the street and in public transports. It makes some people choose using their own cars and motorcycles while having a trip.
Government has already had a breakthrough in public transportation. Build ‘busway’ along main streets is expected to solve Jakarta’s traffic jam. But the fact is not like that. Traffic jam in some main streets is even worse as the streets are narrowing. Government should build or increase the wide of the streets first before they build ‘busway’. So, it does not use existing road.
Jakarta’s traffic jam must be a serious concern of Government as Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia and most of Indonesia’s money is circulating in Jakarta. So, Government should improve the infrastructure in order to maximize Jakarta’s productivity. In order to improve the infrastructure, first we must concentrate more in increasing and improving roads and highways. As the rate of cars’ and motorcycles’ manufacturers’ sales increasing, the Jakarta’s road is not increasing, or even decrease by building ‘busway’.
